Some History Of The F-14 Tomcat

Grumman Aerospace Corporation is the manufacturer of this awesome aircraft and it was built for the Vietnam war in 1970. The first flight of the Tomcat happened in December of 1970 and US Navy started using it in 1974.

The unit production cost of the F-14 was 38 million dollars around 1998 and 712 units of aircraft have been built. This aircraft also participated in Iran and Iraq wars. The US Navy retired the F-14 Tomcat in September 2006.

The F-14 Tomcat was an experimental program after the collapse of the F-111B project. F-14 is a supersonic twin-tail, twin-engine, and two-seater fighter aircraft with variable-sweep wings. These variable geometry wings swing automatically for changing the speed of the aircraft. This beast of an aircraft is powered by two General Electric F110-GE-400 turbofan engines.
