Watch: Good Times When The Blue Angels Flew F11F Tigers – Navy’s First Supersonic Jet
We decided to share this old but gold video about the US Navy Blue Angles with you because it is so awesome to see them flying the Grumman F11F/F-11 Tiger jets. This video was done back in the 1950s and is narrated by Robert Taylor. Now Robert Taylor was a multi-talented person who was a Hollywood actor and also a Navy pilot and an instructor by the time. After a brief introduction about the Blue Angels, the film introduces all the pilots of the Blue Angels crew who was flying at the time.
The Grumman F11F/F-11 Tiger was the first supersonic, single-seat carrier-based fighter aircraft of the United States Navy. The Blue Angels flew this wonderful fighter aircraft since 1969 even if the Navy retired it from carriers in 1961. It could fly up to a maximum speed of 726 mph (1169 km/h).
The film includes footage showing some of the training done by the pilots to become a perfect Blue Angels pilot. This film also provides some explanations about how these perfect maneuvers are done to achieve such an accurate demonstration.
It gives so much pleasure to see the Blue Angels flying the F-11 Tigers and we are sure that you will enjoy it too. Thanks to the YouTube channel PeriscopeFilm for uploading such a great film.
