F-16 Fighter Jet Belong To Air National Guard Slid Off The Runway

An Air National Guard fighter aircraft slid off the runway on Wednesday afternoon. The accident happened at the Sioux Falls airport.

According to the 114th Fighter Wing reports, the F-16 jet overran runway 15 on the south side of the airport and the landing gear collapsed around 2:45 p.m.

The pilot in the jet was returning from a routine training mission and was flying an F-16C/D according to the reports by the Wing.

The landing gear collapsed and the nose separated from the aircraft’s body as seen in the photos on social media. The emergency crew responded to the incident and the pilot was safe.

The air national guard is carrying out investigations on the cause of the accident.
